I should know better than to try to replace a toilet the week before Christmas! A simple job turned into a huge mess. As you can see from this picture it involved breaking concrete and digging down to expose the pipe. Nothing in the original installation appears to have been done well, but miraculously I was able to remove the broken piece of pipe and replace it with the piece you see in the picture. I was able to do it because of some information I got from a stranger who happened to be a former plumber, in a chance meeting in the plumbing aisle at Home Depot.
